Mikoto - s/t - CD (2005)

Labels: Level Plane
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Everyones tastes change, people move on and enjoy different music, but I’d never have thought in billion years that Level Plane would start releasing Myspacemo bands like this. Wow. This is the kind of music that anyone who bought the State Secedes LP (ok, thats 9 of us) would absolutely guffaw about. Mikoto play that kind of terrible screamy rock music that is all over the internet and popular with a very specific ‘market’ of people who sport quite spectacular hair-do’s. That market is not the readers of Collective I am afraid (actually, I hope). Basically, Mikoto are responsible for some very catchy, melodic rock music with awful screamed vocals and a bit of cheesed up singing thrown in. The second song of this EP is particularly diabolical, with faux metal chugs and those vocals. Beyond urging me to remove my own ears with chainsaws, there is very little that this music entices me to do.

Choice cuts from the promo bullshit: There are the select few bands that when they start up, get immediately noticedmusic that is not your everyday run of the mill emo/screamo/post hardcore/hardcore (too true, its none of those types of music) … think Hope Conspiracy meets Underoath meets Thrice meets Strung Out (I think that says more than I ever could)

OK, I do appreciate that labels evolve, that people move on, and so forth, it happens to everyone bar the biggest stick in the muds, but for Level Plane to move from their past to this is more like devolving.

All I can say is that I hope it makes Greg & Level Plane a fuck of a load of money so they can fund putting out better music, or that it entices some kid to pick up some of the Level Plane back catalogue after buying this.

Wow. This is so bad. I am laughing as I listen. Man alive. Myspacemo as fuck. I can’t take any more.
