Suzukiton - Service Repair Handbook - CD (2006)

Labels: Crucial Blast
Review by: Kunal Nandi

What we have here is some quality instrumental rock action that slips into your ears nice and smooth, not that it’s anything like Mogwai though. Recorded several years ago and only getting a release now, this band consists of both current and former Alabama Thunder Pussy dudes, which is surprising, as whilst the Pussy are renowned for some of the most joyously overblown stoner rock this side of Nebula’s solos, Suzukiton is a seriously efficient, stripped-down and agile piece of machinery. Twisty and turny without getting too archly tech, this is unafraid to simply rock out for a while, molten lead riffs sliding into one another fluidly, all strongly supported by a reliable rhythmical base before wrong-footing you when you least expect it. Personal highlight “œShit Trigger” is reminiscent of a slightly more straightforward The Fucking Champs, but the whole things melds melody with metal with consummate ease. The neat packaging, like a Hanes manual, is the icing on this particular cake.
