What with every band ever making a comeback lately, it rather surprised me to see an actual new release from the mighty Superchunk. It is a picture disc, with only one worthwhile track, but I’ll take what I can get right here, in a world starved of Superchunk. This track plays over the end credits of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie (a movie so nonsensical and dire that you need to do a lot of drugs to enjoy, bar the heavy metal intro song which is absolutely amazing), and the b-side is basically the same song but featuring one of the characters from the film. The a-side is classic, mid-period Superchunk. Driving, mid-paced indie rock with Mac cranking out the vocals and the band putting more energy into a song than they have done for quite some time. Of course, you could argue that there are a million Superchunk songs already so one extra that fits in with a bunch of the others is a tad irrelevant, but I won’t. I am always up for more Superchunk songs, regardless of the situation. All hail!
