I was fairly surprised that I enjoyed this 7″. Musically it is great, just up my street – a mix of emo groove and twinkle – but the vocals are perhaps a touch harsher than I prefer these days. So what you wind up with is something between Four Hundred Years and Saetia, and it’s well worth a listen if you enjoy the style, as you’ll have been starved of decent bands in this genre for quite some time. I think whilst a few years ago I’d have been more than up for an LP of this action, a 7″ suits things here as the band’s sound is a touch samey. The single even plays at 45rpm, so the four songs don’t out stay their welcome. I really like the guitar sound, it’s a lot sparser than most modern screamy bands, relying on the melodic elements rather than sheer power. There is a pleasing lack of metal too. Lyrically it’s kind of lost on me, but hey, I often have that problem. Anyways, a sound single, not sure that it points at great things to come but in the meantime it’s a more than adequate slice of the screamage.
