Get Bent - demo - CD (2008)

Labels: Dead Broke Rekerds
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Get Bent has folk from the short lived Potboiler, and a few other bands that I am not familiar with. They continue things in a similar, rough vocalled melodic punk / indie fashion to Potboiler. Things break in with “Sleeping Bag”, a fine mix of tuneful twanging, boys shouting and fun riffing. It’s got elements of Hot Water Music and Small Brown Bike, but also a really fine infusion of catchy late 90s indie / emo to balance out the gruff. It’s a really sweet combination, you don’t always get the catchier elements in bands of this style, there’s little spots of something like Mid Carson July or early Hey Mercedes thrown into the mix. It works. Really well. I’d like a bit more of this side of the band personally, but that is far from a criticism.

There’s no real surprises in store, you just get 5 tracks of driving, poppy punk brimming with energy. Count me in as impressed.
