Tetchy, girl/ boy estuary indie, three tunes about being a teen’ in this crazy modern world of “the internet”, arbitrary drug use, booze and that. CF references to myspace posers, posh kids that can’t handle their pills etc. Musically this is a tad too perfunctorarily well played indie pop for my liking, if it was a little more shambling and C86 I could definitely go for it, as I enjoyed the interplay between the male and female vocals, and even dug some of the, less obviously skins aping, lyrics as well. The very boxy 80’s sounding production reminds me of the monochrome set and a whole slew of things off that Rough Trade Indie pop comp’ from a few years ago, and suits the material. As I say though, just a little too polished for it’s own good, there seems to be something of a resurgence in this kind of thing at the moment, this is perhaps not in the premiership of it’s scene (I feel that The Research from wakefield for example could trounce them). Not bad though, and if they’d sent me the vinyl so I could listen to it in the garden on my vestax handitrax I would probably like it more.. CDr’s eh.
