Uprights - s/t - Tape (2007)

Tapes are cool, end of story. This wilful obscurity extends to the music too. Uprights (not sure if there’s meant to be a ‘The’ preceding that) are a trio from Leeds, and like another certain trio from Leeds, they have a totally neat way with jaggedly playful, acrobatic guitar licks, bass lines that carry the weight of the tune and rock-solid drumming, all intertwined to form oddball skronk-rock that just rolls effortlessly along under its own kinetic energy. Unlike Bilge Pump (there, I said it) though, there isn’t this overarching sense of irony – just a quartet of slamming tunes.
