The Night Marchers - See You In Magic - LP (2008)

Labels: Vagrant
Review by: Alex Deller

Pretty much any time John Reis (or, as he’s back to being called this time around, Speedo) decides to plug in a guitar and set his pipes a-wailin’ is cause for celebration, and the Night Marchers are certainly no exception. Teaming up with fellow ex-Hot Snakes Gar Wood and Jason Kourkounis alongside former CPC Gangbanger Tommy Kitsos on bass, the Night Marchers neatly synthesise Speedo’s musical output of the past 15 years, rallying together the joyous rock n’ roll stomp of Rocket From the Crypt, the hectoring post-punk of Hot Snakes and the rootsy garage kickabouts of the Sultans to glorious effect. Each song (barring, perhaps, the slightly suspect ‘Open Your Legs’) is a nugget of pure punk rock magic, highlights coming thick and fast with “˜In Dead Sleep (I Snore Zzzz)’, “˜I Wanna Deadbeat You’ and “˜You’ve Got Nerve’ just about pipping the rest to the post and proving once more that Speedo clears his nose of more songwriting talent in a single snot-wipe than most acts could muster in a lifetime.
