This is a couple of years old now, but what the hell. 9 people probably bought it and I am on a mission to increase that to at least 10. So yeah, do you have any idea what happened to the guys from Julia after they finished that? As far as I know, a couple of them did a 7″ with Black Jack Action and then the trail goes cold. Until an evening of bored fiddling with the internet led me to locate New Telepathic Friends who feature Mr. Jeremy Miller on electric guitar, chiming away. Thankfully. This is top notch stuff, indie pop of the highest calibre – catchy, light, yet with deftly effective jangly guitar that gives it a little bit of a nudge in the right direction and a whole lot of massively enjoyable warmth. Jen Faith’s vocals will instantly appeal to anyone who sighs wistfully when a Pohgoh or Sarge song comes on their MP3 player at random, because you just don’t hear this kind of thing played any more sadly. You can also throw in Ida and Ribbon Fix as potential references right there. Late 90s as fuck. This kind of music perplexes me, I can’t really understand why the mid to late 90s produced so many bands that have stuck with me for so long, to the point where I’d be quite happy to just listen to new bands rejig those notes into slightly different orders for all eternity. I suspect that says little for my ability to move on musically, but hey, do I look like a give a shite? New Telepathic Friends have hit on the perfect formula here, I am just disappointed that there appears to have been no other music made by the band since this was released. So pick this up whilst you wait for the Brightest Comet to get their act together and record an album. It’ll see you through, I promise.
