Alarm bells sounded as soon as I saw the tracklisting. The final song says “Dance Remix” in brackets next to the title. I was prepared to give them a chance though, because they did write a me a letter that explained they had at least read the reviews policy, which is a lot more than many! Plus the letter said it a bit like Jimmy Eat World, which could mean any number of things, but I was holding out hope for the positive. Unfortunately this turned out not to really be the kind of thing that floats the Collective Zine boat. FX-ed up guitars, big production, typically cheesey post-hardcore riffage, and wrought, whiney vocals. It’s vaguely similar to Jimmy but not in a good way. I know that plenty of people enjoy this kind of music, and if for some reason you are reading and enjoy Hundred Reasons or any number of other bands that emote and play alternative rock music, then you may enjoy Your New Escape plan. For me though, I can’t really be too positive about it musically. At least the bands heart is in the right place. The Eurotrash style Dance Remix is a “banger” (as I believe the young uns say) though!
