Planks - s/t - LP (2008)

Labels: Narshardaa
Review by: Kunal Nandi

As dark, dense and German as a fresh Bratwurst, Planks are a trio that go down the well-worn His Hero Is Gone route, with tightly-wound, satisfyingly heavy hardcore deviating every so often to churn out some super-seasick Eyehategod-style stoner grooves when the time change is due. Lyrics offer no rays of light in on this murkily suffocating world, making this the sort of record for those moments in your life when everything is great and you need to be taken down a peg or two. This comes beautifully presented, the medieval etching used to tasteful effect within the muted palette.
