Not to be confused with Daniel P. Carters turgid, industry-savvy Hexes, Peterborough’s Hex grind out of the speakers, wiping the floor with their namesakes’ media hype. Clocking in at less than three minutes the two original songs here display a focused understanding of modern d-beat tinged metal a la Cursed/ Trap Them. Opener ‘Iblis” bowel-looseningly heavy riffage and guttural roars are phenomenal, underpinned by frenzied blast beats, a jaw droppingly brutal syncopated breakdown smashes out of nowhere, giving it the edge over the following track ‘The Great Deceiver’. The demo is wrapped up with a chaotic, raging cover of Nirvana’s ‘Tourettes’, and despite being almost as immediate and powerful as the original, it is perhaps a little uninspired. In summary, these three tracks are a great taster of what is to come from a little-known gem of UK hardcore.
