Labels: ape must not kill ape – Discos Huelga
Review by: Danny Parsons
It’s not very often that I like the packaging of a record more than the actual record itself. Shame really. The San Fran quartet bring us another two songs in the vaguely the same vein as the last release “” three guitars (no bass) and howling aplenty. The first song We’re Wedded All Wrong doesn’t really do much for me; it’s all chaotic as you’d expect. Evil guitars and a singer who sounds as though he’s being run over “” the drumming kind of makes up for it though, always reliable is Val. Good job there. The second song, Wilmer Valderrama (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Had 2 Wives) is a lot better than the previous track but still not really my cup of tea. I’m a sucker for a melody and this song delivers, if only for about ten seconds. It gets a bit better nearer the end, mainly because after the “breakdown’ the singer shuts the hell up. Anyway, point being, the packaging’s real nice, cool artwork and lyric sheet (even if the lyrics themselves are a bit crud); but at the end of the day, nobody buys a record just for the artwork and the songs here just aren’t that impressive.
