Punks Not Dad - In Me Shed - CD (2009)

Labels: X-Fist
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Oh dear, the comedy punk band is alive and well! Punks Not Dad clearly play off the fact that a lot of old punx are now middle aged fathers, who may find music such as this to be quite entertaining and a nice way to revisit their mispent youth and have a chuckle at the same time. If you enjoyed Geoffrey Oicott (I think I did), Oizone or any number of comedy punk bands from over the years then you are sure to be quite happy with Punks Not Dad. It’s all smartly executed with amusing lyrics about being in a shed, delivered via Eastenders style mockney vocals. Bonus points for the needle coming off the vinyl at the end. I thought that the notes sheet that Boss Tuneage had sent me here was being silly, but it says that it is the official song of “Shed of the Year 2009” but that really does appear to be the case. SELL OUTS!!!! The second song is called “Fathers Day”, the best bit is where they rhyme Fathers Day with “badly written books about Ronnie Kray”. Really, there is nothing that Collective Zine can say about this, it is absurd, stupid, and pointless, but who gives a shit? Certainly not a bunch of middle aged punks behaving badly. Entertaining.
