Noisy Sins Of The Insect - Discography - CDR (2007)

Labels: Kisses And Hugs – Pati Patu Prima
Review by: Oli Saunders

This band broke up over two years ago and released this discography shortly after but fuck it I’m still gonna review it. I finally got a copy the other day and listening to it now makes me want to write some words. Noisy Sins Of The Insect (what a great name) were four guys from Turkey making fantastic modern screamo from July 2005 until February 2007. You might disagree with me but for me the band’s best songs are up there with the greats. So intense and passionate, though very melodic at times. Never really getting that chaotic but instead managing to make a pretty original sound. And the vocals, oh the vocals. Just like Mark from Shikari manages to emit the most brutal screams that sound like nothing else, Alper conjures up similarly distinguishing screams of pain. It’s phenomenal if you are receptive to this kind of thing. So many screamo bands with vocals that sound the same so when there’s one in which they stand out it’s always pretty special, especially when everything else about the music clicks too.

As for the record itself, it’s pretty much all the stuff that the band recorded – I have found alternative tracks floating about and a few additional songs too, some of which are decent and deserve to be on here, not sure why they are not. There is quite a lot of songs that are just okay, they sound pretty raw, I imagine the band did a lot of basic recordings themselves whilst practing. The first three songs are titled as being experiments for example. There are also duplicates of tracks, when they were recorded as demos and then later recorded again. They sound different though so it’s fully justified that they are on here. Overall all the songs are solid and I can happily listen to the whole thing non stop without skipping any of them. The best stuff is from the songs from the Automatic Suicide Machine CDr that came out pretty soon after the band formed, and the tracks from their split tape with Daighila, which came out around the time that they split up along with this discog. Awesome. The best ones are ‘There Won’t Be A My Life’, ‘Dream Connection Between Seat No. 21 and Seat No. 44’, ‘An Exit But It Was Useless’, ‘Lora’ and ‘Open Arm’s Revenge’. There are some absolute killer riffs going on amongst the screams.

In summary, so so good. It’s such a shame that these guys only appear to have played nine gigs to a few people in Turkey who cared. They have also developed a bit of a cult status around the world after breaking up but they’ve written some pretty cool words about being DIY and not caring about popularity, copyright or money. Members have formed other cool bands since in the small but impressive Instanbul DIY scene. If you like screamo and have not checked this band out then what are you waiting for?
