Labels: Sex is Disgusting

The a-side here is fucking cool. Mazes is distorto wrong pop, skewered over two sides of vinyl, leaving me questioning if the vocals are recorded at the wrong speed for the music. Three songs from these Brits wonk their way uncertainly off your turnable. “Bowie Knives” opens, a song about the thin white duke’s kitchenware. Hey what, it’s finished already. Good shit. Then we are flipping it for “Bethesda” which similarily stuffs things up. This is pretty dumb music but I rather like it. Mazes do pop music filtered through substances, the garage, and a lack of finesse, the sort of thing that can find a home on my record player without much trouble. Especially as it doesn’t have a stupid big hole. Final track, the overly poorly recorded and barely noticeable “I’m A Smoker”, is utterly dispensable though and preferably skipped.
Not entirely sure about the “hey, we are weirdos” art work that seems a touch generic to me, but what do I know. Solid seven, come and play in Norwich to 3 people.
