Higher Giant - Al's Moustache - CD (2009)

Labels: Black Numbers
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I am partial to solid melodic punk, and Higher Giant are ultra solid here. 4 tracks of brawny guitar, whiney vocals, and catchy tunes. If you are partial to melodic punk then you will be more than at home with what’s going on here. It breaks no ground, it crosses no borders, it fools no-one, but Higher Giant know exactly what they are doing. Well they ought to anyway, the sum total of the ages of people in this band must be close to 4 figures. One guy was in Token Entry and Grey Area. One guy was in Lifetime and Kid Dynamite. One guy was in Warzone. The other guy must feel a bit disappointed because I have never heard of the band he was in (the Arsons). The press release writes my review for me: “Higher Giant is pretty much what you’d expect from the sum of it’s parts”. Scratch that. It is EXACTLY what you’d expect. Each song buzzes by with energy to spare and gets the toe(s) tapping. You may struggle a little afterwards to recall anything that makes this band stand out from any melodic punk band of the past 15 years, but I like it. Whatever dude.
