Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm
Apparently this is the second release by this band, but trying to find any info on them on the interwebs is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Even their own website consists of a single image and an “under construction” message. Did you ever see that website for Choke Distribution? The same red “Online Store Soon!” page for an entire decade. It’s not there any more. Oh well.
This full length is a pretty solid disc of relatively straight down the line indie rock, mixing in a dash of Interpol / Editors here and there. The band are at their best when they reach out slightly more, such as “St. Jean” where the male and female vocals work really well together. Sadly though I am struggling to write much more about this album. It doesn’t have the bite or energy that I need from indie rock, and it’s a bit too slick and well rounded too. The band is clearly more than adept at the whole thing they are going for, that thing being a rather melancholic and wistful sound, it’s just that musically it isn’t clicking with me. I think if you enjoy the early 80s British indie thing then they might be something you could latch on to, but the production is very modern and much beefier than the bands from back then. Anyways, an OK listen but nothing here to blow away the cobwebs or incite home drinking. Therefore, in my book at least, it’s failed.
