the Alexandria Quartet - s/t - CD (2009)

Labels: Nettwerk
Review by: David Giles

I have listened to this CD twice so far and was going to play it again while I wrote up this review. However, I find myself hesitating as I move to put it in my hi-fi. Its not that the music is horrible; in fact, I remember thinking that some of the hooks were pretty catchy and that it was a perfectly inoffensive album. I just can’t shake the feeling that I’ll be wasting my time if I listen again. Everything about it, from the quaint band photo on the front cover to the 40 minutes of all-holds-barred ‘pop-rock’ on the cd, makes me wonder ‘what is the point?’

Add into the mix some truly awful lyrics (“What I did / What I said / I didn’t mean to go to your head”) and you have another for-friends-and-family-only release.
