The Resurrection Sorrow - Hour Of The Wolf - CD (2009)

Labels: Rootsucker

Think of a heavy, lumbering brute of a thing that kicks up lumps of sod and turf in its wake as it tramps though some stark prehistoric landscape and refuses to be brought down by primitive man’s puny spears and slings. That pretty much sums up The Resurrection Sorrow, a band that’s all armour-plated Sabbath riffing and bluesy, whiskey-soaked drawls, hinting at the likes of Clutch and Spirit Caravan but perhaps most reminiscent of the thundering Southern trudge of NOLA denizens Down. For what it is, “Hour Of The Wolf” is pretty hard to knock, every granite-hewn lump fitting neatly and convincingly into place as the songs are either raised up towards the sky or rained down upon heretical non-believers, the only thing missing being perhaps a touch variety if the band want to become world-beaters with the next 45 minutes they put to tape.
