Thought Greg Cartwright was sounding almost cheery last time round? Well, shucks, he’s had his poor darn heart busted yet again, trod right into the ground and then traipsed across the kitchen carpet. Pity for him of course, but good news for us since this ol’ thing is just about as fine a slice of rough-hewn rock n’ roll as you could hope for, all husky vox, shimmying nods to the Stones and a genuine what-era-was-this-recorded? vibe that’s not forced, played-out or anywhere near dreary. True enough, there might not be the immediate one-two-three sac-kicking of We Repel Each Other / Your Love Is A Fine Thing / If You Can’t Give Me Everything, but shit me if the more you listen to it the more the thing doesn’t become as essential a part of your daily life as early morning coffee or fistfuls of late-night sleeping pills. Buy the damn thing already and learn how this damn racket should be played.
