Cairo Pythian - Night Errands - 12

Labels: Nasjonal
Review by: Alex Deller

Snagged this from the review pile sold on some sort of Coil-meets-Gary-Numan description but in reality it’s a lot more standard than that: an icy, blank-eyed deal of a type peddled by Cold Cave and all those others who’ve made non-derogatory use of the word ‘goth’ acceptable again. There are four tracks here, each loaded with looming guitar tones, tumescent synth lunges, electronic drum snaps and aloof, disconnected intonations depicting an array of furtive, strobe-lit encounters. It probably fancies itself the soundtrack to sordid sojourns loaded with pocketfuls of roofies and poppers but, truth be told, never really delivers the necessary mix of thrill and revulsion to totally convince. A nice enough listen, though, and kudos too for coming decked in cover art that looks like Adam Ant with a mouthful of slugs and budgies.
