You know how bands like Rainer Maria and other obscure cutesy emo bands with hot young girls singing are great till you here them go “HEEYYY YEAAHHHHH” on every bar of every tune? You might wanna check out Football Etc’s tune on this split 7″. Soft vocals merge nicely with the layers of jangly guitars making a big hug of a sound.
Empire Empire Empire Empire Empire, I thought double names weren’t cool any more? Now, this bands has a pretty strong godmo style influence going on, which I find hard to swallow, after doing live sound for that twat from Mineral, who played 2 sets, of the same songs, back to back, in an empty venue, late into the night. I’m talking an hour and a half, with full on jesus loving vocals too. Let’s be honest, this song does have quite a Mineral thing going on, especially in the intro, but don’t prejudge it, this isn’t a simple pop song with emo guitars, these guys know how to write a tune. It evolves and twists and turns and pulls at the heartstrings the way it should, and it well executed by all the band.
Worth mentioning how good the artwork and record itself look too, shame the record came bent like a banana, but I’ll blame the Royal Mail for that…
