Sealings - s/t - Tape (2010)

Labels: Tye Die Tapes
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Cripes. This one gets the attention, blasting full steam ahead amidst a total mess of hiss and distortion. Buried under that lot, if you are the inquisitve sort, is a decent melody and vocals. At least, I think that’s what is under there. It is difficult be entirely sure. Such wilful obliteration of ones own music tells you a lot about the person, I believe. Anyways, this must be near impossible to replicate live, unless they just go and put an old Sanyo tape recorder on the stage, pop in a cassette, and let everyone listen. Stand out track is the nitro fueled blast of “Audition” which sounds somewhere between Sisters and that first Gun Outfit 12″, although it’s been kicked to the curb and jumped on a bit. A real barn burner!

Look, you might think I have been a little negative here about the cruelty that Sealings have displayed to their own music, but this is actually really fucking good. I am a sucker for broken indie rock, so long as there is a melody in there somewhere, and in this case there clearly is. The 4 tracks are all a thrill, showing that these bastards know what they are doing amidst the self mutilation. Sweet.
