Labels: the Great Pop Supplement
Review by: Andy Malcolm
If you find yourself enamored with sublime dreamy pop fronted by wispy voiced females (e.g. Sleep Over), then Still Corners are certain to be right up your silly little alley. “Don’t Fall in Love” is a highly repetitious thing, built on a simple riff and these gentle vocals that soar and swoop into the chorus as and when required. It doesn’t go anywhere in particular, but has a peculiar haunting flavour, it’s utterly intriguing. I find it spooky and gorgeous and I reckon it would fit supremely well on the soundtrack of a movie of a Murakami novel or some overly fancy dan Jarmusch flick that I can’t get my head round. Sweet. If you can bring yourself to flip the vinyl you’ll be treated to “Wish” which glides in with lovely acoustic guitar, before introducing the expected ethereal vocals. This, too, is rather lovely. And then, it’s gone. A perfect dalliance.
