Into It. Over It. - Pswingset - split - 7

It’s good to hear Pswingset, a little further down the line from their demo. They still sound like a work in progress, but the 2 tracks on here are rather hinting at a very nice album sooner or later. “Everything That Was Tired” is an under-stated rumbler of a track, going through the gears before hitting a solid pace. It’s music to listen to on a train. It sounds a bit like Boilermaker, if Boilermaker still were coming to terms with figuring out how to get the best out of their instruments. The recording lets it down slightly too. I do like it, it’s just that Pswingset haven’t yet found their feet. “Thanks for the Record” follows it up and has this lovely guitar sound that reminds of that incredible July song from the split with Jeromes Dream. It’s a far softer effort, and works very nicely. I think it’s about a long distance relationship. Lovely little song.

Into It Over It have never clicked for me, and these two songs do little to change that. “Cambridge, MA” is an acoustic strummer and therefore I am going to generically compare it to Owen. It’s well played and the vocals are good, but just not that exciting to me. “Orlando, FL” is a beefier indie rocker, but it’s kind of boring, it’s like Braid with the fun bits taken out and uninspiring vocals. It fits in with early 21st century Deep Elm, competent rocking stuff that simply fails to connect with me.

Whilst I haven’t gone a bundle on this release, I do have to say here that I LOVE the art work! Super.
