Now here’s a rare beast: one of those splits where the bands don’t sound alike but complement each other perfectly thanks to a shared, ‘neath-the-surface affinity. Unearthly Trance cough up ‘Blind Driving Through The Ghost Mountains’ which is about as eerie and ominous as its title would suggest, a torrential blast of mongrel, Lovecraftian metal that draws on doom, crust and wizened blackness as it oozes its way through 15 land-blighting minutes. Elsewhere, Torontonian powerhouse the Endless Blockade pummel, clump and tear their way through their own brand of mutant hostility, doling out a shapeshifting mix of power violence, grind and bed-shitting power electronics that lurks comfortably amidst their ‘Red List’ and ‘Primitive’ material and provides a stinging reminder as to just what we lost when they chose to leave this earthly plain.
