What Price, Wonderland? - Twisted - split - 7

This is one great split record of two UK bands doing something a tad different with DIY punk.

What Price Wonderland are first up and continue the utterly ridiculous trend of playing less and less and writing better and better music. They rip through 5 songs in 8 minutes here giving nods to about a thousand different great bands, whilst still not sounding like one in particular. At times it sounds like they have a gun to their heads as the vocals struggle to keep up with the music, slowing down only to bring some grooves and some twinkles before upping the urgent shaky beat again. Great to have a UK band that continually bring something new and get better on every output.

The last two Twisted 7″s have been on pretty constant rotation the last year or so. On the two songs here they take their emo dudes playing garage rock schtick and absolutely nail it. Once again they remind me of about a million bands whilst still sounding fresh. The first song, “˜Eyes of a Girl’ is an utter gem. Any band that can make you want to sit and read the lyrics and rock out in your room in equal measure is ok by me. Intense and awesome.

Two of the best UK DIY punk bands on one record. Just a shame one barely plays and the other has called it a day. I could whine some more, or I could turn the record over again.
