Sweet Weapons - demo - CD (2011)

Labels: self released
Review by: David Giles

Genuinely refreshing pop punk from New Mexico that somehow manages to avoid the enormous chasm of hate into which every pop punk band I hear plunges fringes (or beards)-first. Now, I don’t mean that I was blown away by this. At times it felt a little too repetitive for me to mark out on. However, the overarching feeling I got was of a pleasant, primitive, catchy demo by a bunch of guys into hardcore. Quite a few times they use archetypal “˜hardcore’ riffs but in this context they feel pretty tasteful. The comparison to Lifetime is definitely strong although there are still miles in between the two. If you’re into pop punk or open to trying it out, defo try this. It is a genuine endorsement that I’ve reviewed a POP PUNK demo without starting a fight with the label/band in the process. I’ll probably follow this band.
