Labels: Captured Tracks
Review by: Andy Malcolm
Captured Tracks is still cranking them out, and it’ll come as no surprise to the regular reader (singular) that two songs of woozy, female fronted shoedreamgazepop will go down well in these quarters. Blouse are doing nothing out of the ordinary or dissimilar to countless other bands (many of them on Captured Tracks) but I like it a lot. Too bad. “Into Black” rumbles ominously with electronics providing the bed, and gloomy bass and drums to ensure everything is appropriately moody and cold. “Firestarter” bends things more in the direction of New Order, and is a less claustrophobic experience albeit with similar musical elements.
This is not the sort of music to listen to on a 20 degree day in May, unless you are feeling somewhat under the weather and stuck in doors. Which I am. Handy.
