Two snotty but disparate stabs of KBD punk here, lovingly reissued by the ever-brilliant Mississippi. ‘X Patriots’ is a simple but tasty two-minute punk pounder, all snarky vocals and crisp, jutting riffs with a slight undercurrent of weirdness bubbling up towards the end. That undercurrent comes queasily to the surface on the aptly-named ‘I’m A Mutant’, which dispenses with the catchy Sex Pistols riffing and replaces them with repetitious keyboard jabs and monotonous robo-vocals that, after ten seconds or so, feel like someone has stabbed a screwdriver into your brainstem and is slowly starting to wiggle the fucker. About mid-way through a wonderfully wrong guitar solo stumbles into the fray, drunkenly guiding things back towards relative (ab)normality before everything goes well and truly on the blink for an awesome if eye-watering finale, all of which offers a far more arduous if infinitely more rewarding listen than the staple punker on the flip.
