LKN - Knife the Symphony - split - CD (2011)

Labels: Phratry
Review by: Thomas Strawbridge

Knife the Symphony up first. Jagged discordant rocking punk, maybe Transistor Transistor meets Shellac? First song is a decent noise and finishes on time. Second massively outstays its welcome with a ludicrous extended outro….I go for the third anyway: it is art/noise toss. Mixed bag, not worthwhile. LKN played everything herself which is impressive. However this means there hasn’t been much in the way of an editing process. The vocals are good, but the songs wander a little aimlessly, outstay their welcome, and often contain parts/instruments that would have been better left out. The last track is the best by far – piano and vocals only for three minutes. And I have no love for standard song structures.
