Labels: Get Young

Whilst I was initially put off by the artwork and the fact that “Get Laid’ is an irrefutably bad name for a band, this split has more to it than I initially feared. Both bands are from Boston, MA and it sort of makes sense why they’d do a split, beyond geographical proximity. Get Laid are the faster of the two bands although their out and out thrashier parts are accompanied with some welcome “weirder’ moments. The whole thing sounds loose and almost sloppy to the point of discordance, which is only enhanced by the slightly muddy sounding production, although much of this is to their benefit.
Now Denial are more of a mid-paced, driving punk affair with parts that are more akin to stoner rock. Again they seem unafraid to stray from formula and whilst some of it works well, other bits don’t quite add up to me- particularly the cleaner vocal style which creeps in. There’s seemingly a complete lack of distortion on the guitars which makes certain parts sound jarring and unusual, but I think this is probably a good thing as it prevents them from being too predictable.
