I thought I was going to really like this because being the utter bulb that I am, I read the press release which came with it which referenced, amongst many, many others, the following things:
Primal Scream
The Fall
“Iron Man”
The Mahavishnu Orchestra
However, the most obvious influence which for some reason was omitted from a quite exhaustive list, is that shit Oasis album which came out in about 1997 and had a car in a swimming pool on the cover. Just in case you’re pretending not to remember it, let me remind you. It was the one on which all the songs were ten minutes long and covered in twenty layers of guitar all making a big “weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” noise. It was absolutely terrible and was trying desperately to sound like something grown up and famous but the lyrics still sounded as though they’d been written by a fourteen year old boy, which nobody had cared about on “Live Forever” when they were jumping up and down at the disco but how can you jump up and down for six minutes to a song called “The Girl in the Dirty Shirt” ?
On the press release there is a series of ridiculous quotes from industry professionals who are all desperate to tell you how good this album is and by comparing it to various other artists they think you might like, trying to influence you to buy it. So just incase you do buy it and you end up hating it, here are the names and email addresses of the people in question:
