Protectors - the Stem and Leaf - 12

Labels: self released

This is ex various bands including Pylon, Dugong and Nathaniel Green “” all of whom I have more than a passing interest in – I was a big fan of most of the releases that those bands put out. This EP follows on from their debut album from last year with 2 new tracks and a couple of remastered versions of songs from the album. “œThe Carousel” kicks things off with some bouncy, indie rock and will draw comparisons to the brilliant Pylon – thanks partly to the fact that it’s the same singer. A lot of the guitar work on this EP reminds me of Pylon too. “œOvertime” quotes The Cure’s “œJust Like Heaven” and is another particularly bouncy tune. The brilliant “œHoneymoon?” with its catchy and melodic chorus makes a reappearance while the last track doesn’t outstay its welcome despite being over six minutes long. It’s infectious and melodic indie rock throughout with some nice harmonizing in the vocals. If you like any of the aforementioned bands then you’ll likely be into this too. I found this on Spotify yesterday and promptly drained my free allocation of all 4 tracks. This is happy music – lovely stuff.
