Clockwork Era - Fear Inside - CD (2012)

Labels: self released
Review by: MH

I have had this in my “œto do” list of reviews for a  good while now and I have listened to this countless times. This is DIY punk rock as God intended – at least, that’s what the press release tells me. It also compares them to Sonic Youth, The Circle Jerks, Royal Trux and The Jesus Lizard. I don’t think it sounds anything like any of them. This band is a 2-piece (drums and guitar) and they play a form of post punk harking back to 80s punk. They are pretty tight and make a big racket considering there are only 2 of them. It’s reasonably polished with shouty, deadpan vocals and all 4 songs have angry, repetitive lyrics which dominate each song and push them into almost mantra-like territory. It is this repetition and the almost mechanical tightness in the music that I am struggling with. I have found this to be rather bland.Â
