Daytrader are ex-Latterman and Crime In Stereo and are based in Brooklyn. They have been quietly causing a fuss in some punk circles since their demo and debut EP and I know that there were high expectations of this album in some quarters. However, I only really like the last song. It’s quite a rocky album and is not bad but it really fails to grab me. I can’t really find any connection in the majority of lyrics either. This sounds at times like the more recent efforts from Jimmy Eat World or Thursday – a bit darker maybe. The producer is the same one who has worked on albums by I Am The Avalanche and Taking Back Sunday in the past and it has a similar feel to their albums or even Crime In Stereo. I have seen other reviews that praise this album to the skies and beyond but I’m afraid this is mediocre at best for me. From the numerous listens I have given it so far I have to say it’s disappointing. It also sounds nothing like Sunny Day Real Estate despite what the press release says.
