The Most Powerful Telescope In The Universe - Lectures on Quanta - Download (2012)

My criterion for selection of a band to review off the remains of the digital list was to pick the one with the most stupid name. My Head Is A Balloon was already taken so it defaulted to this band. I don’t know much about these guys but they come from Cincinatti and apparently record together in a secluded log cabin every once in a while. All is done in a weekend apparently – songwriting, mixing, recording etc. They have members in various other bands including Coltrane Motion and get together every now and then as The Most Powerful Telescope In The Universe. There are two tracks here of downbeat and spacey indie. The vocals in the lead track remind me of some of the lazier-sounding 90s indie rock bands from America – kind of mellow and laidback. They are also sung in a higher pitch. This song has a nice bass line – it drifts along and is pretty moody – not bad, although I am less keen on the synth towards the end. I am not completely convinced by the “ooh-ooh” vocals which kind of dominate the second track but it is quite a nice, droney tune overall.
