Vacant Kiss - Say You Love Me - CD (2012)

Labels: Dead Penny
Review by: MH

This is some melodic and poppy post punk from Leeds. There are six tracks here and I get a little bit of 90s female-fronted indie bands in my head when I listen to this – the likes of Sleeper and Echobelly – more of an updated version of those type of bands rather than anything copycat. I saw that they supported Cud when they reformed for a few gigs last year. That was one reformation I never expected to see….and I didn’t – even when I had tickets to a gig they were supporting at. I was also surprised to see Rough Trade trying to sell a vinyl re-issue of “Leggy Mambo” for £20 when I was in there the other day. However, this review is not supposed to be about Cud and I did kind of like them at the time. I would say that if you were into some of those 90s indie rock bands I mentioned you might well be into this. Also, according to the blurb this “album WILL be loved by fans of Pixies, Blondie, Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, Gun Club & The Bangles”. I am not sure if this is fact or not.
