Enjoyed this one. White Reaper blaze through a couple of buzzed out tracks, not massively removed from a parallel universe where the Marked Men didn’t bother to record their songs properly. Crushed underneath the fuzz are some catchy melodies and Ramones-y vocals. Conspirator is maybe a touch too long at almost 4 minutes but it is packed with a fair bit of variation which the amateurish nature of the recording doesn’t initially reveal. Second track “The Cut” crashes in with some beefy riffs and “oh-oh-oh-ohs” that then reverb out. This song is the more exciting of the two for me, it’s pretty wild and strung out. I like what they are doing here.
There’s definitely some fine ideas going on with this single, the band also have an LP out which on the strength of this is likely worth checking out if they have managed to bring this level of creativity to an album. Also like the 8 bit artwork that looks like it it is from a ZX Spectrum game.
