Mars To Stay - The Red Door - 7

Labels: Eat A Book
Review by: Oli Saunders

Whilst most genres of music quickly saturate, I think that bleak slowcore will never get there. Mars To Stay have a wonderfully original take on things, playing music that many people could not stomach simply for it being too sad and slow. Though to contrast, I’ve spoken to a number of people with fairly “normal” music tastes who have told me how much they enjoyed it; so what do I know…

Close your eyes and sit back while you listen to this to allow immersion to occur – straining to hear what the vocals are saying, I can only make it bits here and there, but it’s incredibly relaxing. Somehow they’ve managed to slow things down a notch with these two songs. In fact, a simplified lo-fi version of Jesu comes to mind on this record more than any other band comparison that I can think of. Touring Europe with Plaids at the moment, I highly recommend this.
