Warren Franklin and the Founding Fathers - Every Letter & Souvenir - LP (2013)

Labels: Count Your Lucky Stars
Review by: MH

Aside from a couple of cursory listens to “Your Heart Belongs To The Midwest” I haven’t really given Warren Franklin a proper go before. Not that I disliked that record but it didn’t grab me at first and I’ve not been back to it for a while. I also saw him play as part of Empire! Empire! (i was a lonely estate) in Camden a while back. They played at least one of his songs that night and it appears on here. In fact, four of these five songs are oldies that have been re-recorded as he has added The Founding Fathers to give them the full band treatment. Naturally, the sound this time is a little bigger and more polished and I think it’s for the better. It’s a touch more upbeat than a lot of the bands that they can seen playing gigs with and also a bit more straightforward. I’d pick out the title track as the standout which is a nice and summery indie rock track.
