A two tracker from the chameleonic Hatred Surge, who offer up one original and a Godflesh cover for a release on which all expense seems to have been spared, its flimsy-as-fuck sleeve one step removed from being wrapped in a crumpled Happy Shopper bag. The title track leads off with slow-mo drums and a riff of seismic proportions, reminiscent of the restrained power of MITB or Noothgrush at their most ponderous. This, along with bestial roars and some lurking, downed-power-cable Eric Wood bass motifs browbeats you for much of the song before things sway into a gluey, jazz-like bassline and a huge, swaggering sludge riff. Following this is a serviceable enough cover of ‘Like Rats’, which is hewn from similar stuff and therefore sounds less machinelike (and less threatening) than the original, ending things on a note that’s solid enough albeit overshadowed by the band’s own terrifying effort.
