You'll Live - Lost. Forgotten. Abandoned. Buried - LP (2013)

Labels: Dog Knights
Review by: Rob Mair

Although You’ll Live hail from Florida “” the so-called “˜Sunshine State’ “” there’s little sweetness and light about this cathartic three-piece. Melding post-rock and post-punk sounds with screamed, raw vocals, this four-track is yet another winner for Dog Knights “” although comparisons to labelmates Old Grey would be somewhat unfair, despite them playing in the same ballpark (albeit at opposite ends).

Sonically engaging from the off You’ll Live recall the twiddly emo sound of American Football or the slacker pop of Pavement, while there’s also a playfulness to their sound “” particularly on a couple of the songs on this four-track (the titles of which make up the title for the EP as a whole) “” which really sets them apart from their peers. “˜Forgotten’ starts off as a straight-up post-punk cut before morphing into this galloping sing along midway through, while closing track “˜Buried’ stretches their sound out into cosmic post-rock territory “” proving there’s plenty of tricks up their collective sleeves.

Overall, “˜Lost. Forgotten. Abandoned. Buried’ is the ideal four-track EP “” short (although “˜Buried’ makes up about a half of the run-time on its own), sharp, inventive and leaves you wanting more.
