Speedtrap’s first full-length’ll put a jolt into you like a snorted espresso shot: a crisp, catchy volley of early-daze metal that welds thrash, NWOBHM and punk’s terse brevity to frantic effect. The overall vibe is akin to Kill ‘Em All-era Metallica careening through a handful of Motörhead tracks, and thanks to the slightly high, slightly out-of-control shrieking there’s also a whiff of Griffin or vintage Priest to be heard. It’s got just the sort of organic, barely-in-control vibe that you want from shit like this, coupled with enough demented joy to gloss over any cracks when the hooks fall slightly short. It’s immensely entertaining and has clearly been crafted with buckets of love – just what you need when you want to pinball off other drunken, headbanging goons at the Unicorn before crushing a half-full Budweiser can (snuck into the venue, naturally) into the front of your battlehardened skull.
