Sharp post-punk that manages the mysterious feat of being both jagged and tuneful. Melodies jab, rhythms jitter, vocals wail and it all tears along in a way that’s kinda hard to pin down. A bit X-Ray Spex, a bit Frau and an incy wincy bit of Joy Division thanks to the chilly 80s vibe, maybe? It kinda reminds me of those times you get a pill caught in your throat and the sugary coating dissolves before you can pour yourself a glass of water: sweet, bitter and vaguely panicked all at once. Ultimately it’s a pretty fine thing, and enough of a blast to suggest that last year’s follow-up should also be worth tracking down.
