This is a duo from New Zealand who appear to have been fairly active since mid-2012. They’ve sent it in to CZ in the UK but it’s ended up back on this side of the planet with me writing about it in Australia. They play a fairly raw and nervy form of poppy emo/punk. It’s all quite loud and melodic and the ragged side keeps it sounding fresh. The coupling of “Phenomenal Ladies” and “Not Cute, Anymore” is what won me over on initial listens – the latter, in particular, is a little noisy once the track kicks in and has a bigger chorus. However, it’s all pretty good. Nicole’s vocals are strong too and she does the odd bit of lingering on lines. Noisy and melodic is a combination that often works well for me so I’m a little disappointed I wasn’t in Brisbane when they were here this weekend gone. Oh, well – next time.
