Odd Box has been pretty busy lately – this is the 4th release that came in in the last few weeks. This is a return to action for this Leeds band as they were previously active between 2006 and 2009. I’d not heard them before but they play upbeat and fuzzed up indie pop with lots of nice melodies and some fine songwriting. There are some darker film samples sprinkled throughout the record too. I’d pick out a few songs in particular. The slower and more melancholy “Goffin-King” is a good one and “She’s A Bullet” opens with a drumbeat very reminiscent of “Some Candy Talking” by The Jesus & Mary Chain who appear to be a major inlfuence on the band. The darker post punk stomp of “The Blood Club” is another good one. The best song on here though might be “Anything But Satisfied” which is an upbeat and poppy track and bears a passing resemblance to The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. They’ve got their own sound down to a tee though so I think if you’re into one song you’re going to like the lot.
