Herein Ben Cook (yep, he of Fucked Up fame) indulges his less aggro proclivities with syrupy three-minute pop dots that’re all breathy vocals, swoon-inducing sounds and the kind of 80s guitar sound you might hear on a Jack Lee record. Despite its candyfloss sweetness things manage to stay the right side of cloying thanks to a canny gift for songsmithery and washes of FX that swaddle rather than stifle. Truth be told it’s not my usual cup of tea – I prefer mine sugar-free – but the songs slink nicely, the feyness is just about tempered and it’s ultimately pretty hard to beat as a swell soundtrack for a stroll through the park on a bright, balmy day.
