Jess Locke is a Melbourne-based singer playing melancholy, sad songs on a guitar. It has that bedroom feel (perhaps less so than with her older stuff) and is pretty delicate and light even when electric replaces acoustic guitar on some of the songs. Lyrically, things are introspective and personal with tales of feelings and relationships. Jess’s voice is kind of light and she has something of a subdued style which fits these songs perfectly. “Moved On” opens things in restrained fashion over a repeated guitar line – it’s a lovely, delicate opener. There are beats here too – light drums, so it’s not totally threadbare. I’ve been listening to quite a lot of this kind of downbeat, stripped-down acoustic, bedroom-y folk lately. Not sure why – I must quite like it.
